Our Mission

To provide independent, comprehensive, expert scientific advice to the Australian Government on autism policy and system reform, with a specific focus on improving outcomes for autistic individuals with moderate to profound disability and higher support needs. 

The Committee will advocate for evidence-based strategies and reforms that address the critical national gaps in diagnosis, early intervention, education, housing, healthcare, employment, justice and lifelong supports.

Purpose & Objectives 

  • Convene leading autism experts and stakeholders to provide a unified, independent voice to all levels of government.

  • Monitor and advise on the development and implementation of the National Autism Strategy and related policy frameworks.

  • Ensure autistic individuals with moderate and higher support needs are included in all stages of policy design and evaluation.

  • Identify evidence-based approaches to improve the outcomes for autistic children across health, education, justice, employment, and the NDIS.

  • Serve as a rapid-response body to provide advice on urgent and emerging autism-related issues.

  • Maintain a commitment to lived experience and scientific rigour.
